More About Me

Started teaching violin long, long ago in 1977.

Sang in school choirs in elementary school through Junior High, high school and throughout college.

Played in high school orchestra until graduation. Member of the Abbey Orchestra at Delbarton from 1977-80, and again 2002 to present (so do – and did – many of my students, I’m very proud to say!). Principle Second Violin in Metropolitan Orchestra of NJ 2014-2015 (I had Monday evenings free that year), charter member of 12-year-old string quartet “No Name Quartet”.

Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Thomas Edison State University. Member of American String Teacher’s Association.

My current projects are playing rock electric violin, recording some violin tracks for an upcoming album, and working on my own album.

I’d love to chat with you!

    How does this work?

Once you’ve paid for your first four lessons, I’ll email you to confirm. Then we schedule your weekly lessons. Simple! If you live close by, lessons can be in-person. Chances are you’re somewhere else in the world – that’s no problem – I use Google Hangouts, and you don’t even have to leave your house! If you already have a violin and bow, you’re all set. If not, I’ll help you find a source for rental or purchase wherever you happen to live.

Where will music take you? Here!

Wherever you want it to! Do you long to perform on stage in an orchestra? You can. Do you want that sense of accomplishment from playing that song you always wanted to? Yep! Have you been to a concert and wished that was you on the stage? It can be. Are you interested in meeting new people and making new friends? I call it a “violin portal” since it leads you to an amazing place.

    .........and here!

Maybe being on stage isn’t your goal – that’s perfectly fine! As I said, violin is whatever you want it to be. It can simply be “you” time. It can be about goals accomplished step by step. It can be mental enrichment – learning something new and different. Tell me your goals – I’ll help you to get there!

What’s the significance of the word “Tala?”

It means many things that describe my business!

Making music in Sanskrit……….transplanted tree in Arabic……….spring or fountain in Berber……….there are lots of villages with Tala in the name that have springs and palm Trees in Northern Africa……….to Native Americans it means she-wolf……….in India it means rhythm or beat……….it means green in Thai……….to the Samoans it’s currency……….in Persian it’s spelled the same way as gold……….bright star or morning star in Tagalog……….land to Mongolians……….to support in Greek……….queen (actually King, but I’m snagging it anyway) in Burmese……in Icelandic, to speak or talk.

Do you know any more meanings in your language? Drop me a comment so I can add it to the list!
